First we will try study about Wireshark . Let’s Share…Because It’s Beauty.. :)
Wireshark is the one of sniffing tool, it can “sniff” the data packages in our network. It looks like TCP Dump, but the Wireshark is a good one, it can capture or sniff the data packages in our network, but the data packages is divided into sparated packages and grouped into their data packages, so we could analyze the data packages easy.

Wireshark could run in GUI (Graphical User Interface) mode, or text mode (CLI – Command Line Interface) for all operating system such as *Nix Operating System (Unix, Linux and the friends), Windows, and MacOS. We can use it to maintenance and diagnose our network. Such as we could identify what computer that send any strange information to strange destination continuously, maybe the computer is infected by virus, trojan, worm or others any malware. Except to sniff the data packages,Wireshark could read the the data that captured by another data package trace such as TCP Dump, LAN Analyzer, and etc.
Before we use the Wireshark, wes must install it first our operating system. In this case, we install Whiresark in Linux Centos 5.5 in text mode (CLI – Command Line Interface). We could install the Wireshark package in three ways, install form :
1. Source packcages
2. Binary packgaes
3. Repository Server
In this case, we will not do the first way (install from resource packages), because it’s more difficult and need more dependencies. So we will install the Wireshark with binary packages and repository server.
a. Install Wireshark with Binary Packages
To install Wireshark with Binary Packages we must have the packages, please : ). The Wireshark binary packages for CentOS 5.5 is typed rpm file. Because CentOS 5.5 is child from Linux RedHat. Before install Wireshark , we must install the depencies first. The dependencies are :
1. Libcap(libcap-1.10-26.i386.rpm)
2. Libsmi (libsmi-0.4.5-2.el5.i386.rpm)
3. Wget (wget-1.11.4-2.el5_4.1.i386.rpm)
And the last is the Wireshark (wireshark-1.0.8-1.el5_3.1.i386.rpm).
You can download in here.
Let’s do it.
1. Pray First..hehehe..
2. Login as root or the same level of root
3. Go to directory wehere the packages is located use cd (change directory) command.
4. Then instal the packages use rpm –ivh packages-name.rpm
#rpm –ivh libcap-1.10-26.i386.rpm libsmi-0.4.5-2.el5.i386.rpm wget-1.11.4-2.el5_4.1.i386.rpm wireshark-1.0.8-1.el5_3.1.i386.rpm
1. Wait for proses installing.
2. The Wireshark is installed :)
3. It’s easy..
b. Install Wireshark with Repository Server
It’s easier to install Wireshark with Repository Server. We dosn’t need depencies first, because it’s installed automatically. Just one line command.
#yum install wireshark
All the packages will be installed. :)
The Wireshark is ready to use. And the command is tshark not Wireshark . For example, we want to capture the data packages that running away in our ethernet. We can usai i parameter to do it. For example :
#tshark –i eth0
this is the for example for the output:
